Financial markets

DMGT and the financial markets

The trustees of the DMGT pension schemes have developed a statement of investment principles, which describe in detail the policy and approach to be adopted for the pension portfolios. This includes statements on encouraging socially responsible investment for the schemes by active investment managers who have devised appropriate socially responsible investment policies and actively engage with companies in which they invest.

DMGT is a member of the Unclaimed Assets Register, a database of unclaimed financial assets that helps reunite individuals with their lost assets and re-establish contact with financial institutions.

ShareGift

In the UK, DMGT supports ShareGift, a charity share donation scheme for shareholders wishing to give small holdings of shares to benefit charitable causes administered by the Orr Mackintosh Foundation (registered charity number 1052686). It may be especially useful for those who wish to dispose of a small parcel of shares which would cost more to sell than they are worth. There are no capital gains tax implications (i.e. no gain or loss) on gifts of shares to charity, and it is also possible to obtain income tax relief.

If you would like to use ShareGift or receive more information about the scheme, they can be contacted by visiting their website at www.sharegift.org or by writing to the Orr Mackintosh Foundation, 46 Grosvenor Street, London W1K 3HN.

For schools

Newspapers inform, enlighten, persuade and entertain. DMGT has produced a guide for schools about how newspapers are made.
