Visitors to the Dome, the centrepiece of Britain's millennium celebrations, will be able to keep a Daily Dome newspaper as a souvenir of their day at Greenwich.

The Daily Dome and Sunday Dome will be produced every day during 2000, featuring: news stories about events at the Dome; UK, international and sports news; a Dome diary of events; a guide and features on the zones and other attractions at the Dome; celebrity interviews, and updates on the progress of the Millennium Experience National Programme.

The New Millennium Experience Company, the Government-owned operating company for the Dome, announced today that the Daily Dome will be produced by Associated Newspapers, publishers of the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and Evening Standard.

NMEC Chief Executive Jennie Page said: "The Daily Dome newspaper will only be available to visitors to the Millennium Experience and will provide a colourful and informative memento of their day out, unique to the date that they came to Greenwich. We are delighted that Associated Newspapers will be producing the Daily Dome on our behalf."

Associated Newspapers Managing Director Murdoch MacLennan commented: "We are delighted to be associated with Britain's outstanding millennium celebration. The Daily Dome will provide that extra edge of excitement and interest during a wonderful day out for the Dome's estimated 12 million visitors."

The Daily Dome is expected to be a free, 32-page full-colour tabloid. The masthead, part of the front page and the centre eight pages will be devoted to the Dome, with the remainder sourced from Associated's existing news, sport, finance, TV and entertainment, features and weather output.

Proposals from two other national newspaper groups were also considered by NMEC's Board Executive Committee today, which took the decision to proceed with Associated. The venture is entirely financed by Associated as part of the company's contribution to Britain's millennium celebrations.

The Daily Dome will be distributed at entrances to the Dome and at the 30 catering outlets on the Dome site.

NMEC is discussing joint promotions with Associated including reader competitions for tickets to the Dome, and sale of tickets via the Evening Standard's 'Hot Tickets' pages on the 'This is London' Web site.
