Teletext Ltd has signed a deal with BT Cellnet to launch a Teletext branded WAP service on BT Cellnet's market leading Genie Internet service (www.genie.co.uk). The service will be launched at the start of May 2000 with the new searchable Teletext Holiday offers database - a revamped interactive version of the long-established Teletext holiday service that is now live on the Web at www.teletext.co.uk.
Lawrence Lawson, commercial director of Teletext, comments: "Teletext has an enormous reputation with the public for providing access to the best holiday deals through their TV's - offering choice and value. The Teletext name stands for reliability and quality and the time is now right to take the service into the future and lead the way in the online, interactive travel market that is set to explode over the next few years."
The service will link directly into the Teletext Holiday offers on the Web, and will allow consumers to search quickly and easily through the thousands of offers available by different preferences and criteria. Other key content areas of the Teletext service will follow over the coming months.
"At Teletext we have spent several years honing our skills in delivering concise and timely information that is relevant to peoples lives, which is precisely the kind of expertise that the WAP platform demands," Lawson continues. "The strength of the brand means that we now have a WAP proposition that will make sense to consumers and deliver further opportunities for our advertisers."
Brian Greasley, Genie Internet's general manager said: "As market leaders in mobile Internet, BT Cellnet and Genie Internet want to recruit the best quality content-and Teletext's fits the bill perfectly."
Note.
The Teletext Holiday Offers Database was launched on the Teletext Web site (www.teletext.co.uk) in February 2000 with a £3 million advertising campaign.
