Teletext Ltd, the world's largest on-demand text service, is launching real-time share prices on the Finance section of its web site at www.teletext.co.uk/finance.
It is the first time that web users will have unlimited access to real-time share prices without having to subscribe or register. The shares service covers 3,000 of the most popular shares listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
Chris Clarke, Teletext finance editor, said: "In a financial world where seconds can make the difference between soaring shares and a stock market slump, investors need up-to-the-second information at their fingertips.
"The Internet has helped to level the playing field between the City- based professionals and the private investor. But most Internet sites delay share data by at least 15 minutes. Others require you to give personal information or charge a monthly fee.
"Teletext is handing over the power of real-time information to all its users - from regular traders to those with a few windfall shares - to enable them to make the right investment decisions at the right time."
Larry Lawson, Teletext commercial director, said: "Teletext has an enormous reputation with the public for our accuracy and reliability. With share trading fast becoming a national obsession and a growing hunger for finance information, we are investing significant sums to allow private investors to see the same information that drives the decision-making of City professionals.
"Together with our user-friendly share portfolio and financial news service, Teletext has created a powerful tool all investors will find invaluable."
