Retirement of Director

Sir Ronald Grierson, who has been a non-executive director of the Company since 1995, retires from the Board by rotation at the Annual General Meeting, to be held on Wednesday 14 February, 2001. He has been asked by the Company not to stand for re-election in accordance with the objective of the Remuneration and Nominations Committee not to seek the re-election of directors over the age of 75.

Details of retiring directors, who will be seeking re-election, will be included in a circular containing notice of the Annual General Meeting, to be despatched to shareholders, together with the Annual Report for the year ended 1 October, 2000, on Wednesday 17 January, 2001.
