(London - 30 April 2003) The Editor and a writer on This Is Money, Associated New Media's finance website, have won major awards at a prestigious London awards ceremony.

Users of specialist website Headline Money voted This Is Money Editor Steve McDowell as New Media Journalist of the Year. Former This Is Money writer Jo Thornhill was named runner-up.

Headline Money is a service site for the personal finance media and more than 500 journalists were asked to identify those they felt had made the greatest impact in their respective fields over the past year.

The shortlist was drawn up from final judging by 59 full-time professional personal finance journalists from all forms of media.

McDowell, 35, picked up his award from Private Eye editor Ian Hislop at a ceremony in the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

The judges praised him for his understanding of what users wanted and a gut feeling for how it was to be organised. Jo Thornhill was lauded for her great work during her the last of her three years on the site. She joined the Mail on Sunday in February this year.

Roger Anderson, publisher of Headline Money, said: 'The judging process has been specifically designed to ensure that they do bestow honour and glory upon the recipient...well, at least a nod from the boss and a paragraph on the front page.'

McDowell said: 'To win any kind of award is a nice feeling, but one which is bestowed by your peers is really special. We are only a small team so it is particularly pleasing that the efforts of all the staff at This is Money have been recognised. We intend to continue to deliver our best.'
