(London - June 30 2003) Simon Dyson, Group Finance Director of Associated Newspapers, has been awarded an MBE in the recent Queen's Birthday Honours for his tireless charity work.
Simon is Chairman of the renowned Anthony Nolan Trust, the largest independent register of bone marrow donors in the world.
His work with the trust started in the mid-80s. As a former National President of the Round Table, he had been a zealous campaigner for charitable causes. In 1986, he co-ordinated a recruitment drive by the Round Table that brought 100,000 potential bone marrow donors onto the Anthony Nolan register. In six weeks, he achieved what it had taken the trust 17 years to attain.
As a result, he was appointed an Anthony Nolan trustee, and in 1988 became Chairman.
Seventeen years ago, the charity provided 14 donors for life-saving bone marrow transplants. In 2002, it offered the chance of life to 415 patients suffering from leukaemia and other immune deficiency diseases.
