(London - 3 November 2003) The UK’s first TV channel to provide a video mall for consumers to shop for holiday deals from a wide range of agents and operators is set to be launched by Teletext Holidays next spring when it begins broadcasting Teletext Holidays TV on digital satellite.
Teletext Holidays TV will build on the successful format of the company’s existing satellite text services which receive two million viewers per month* to provide consumers with inspirational programming and a marketplace for the best UK and overseas holiday and flight offers available.
Broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Teletext Holidays TV will link to the company’s existing interactive satellite services via the text button to provide a unique search facility for offer details on all holiday types. Enhancements to the Teletext Holidays TV text service will include video stream in quarter screen format.
Speaking about the launch; Teletext’s commercial director, Lawrence Lawson said; "Teletext Holidays TV will provide large and small travel agents or operators with the chance to showcase their brands on TV to generate a high volume of calls at a cost per minute that can’t be rivalled by other TV channels. Teletext Holidays has strong brand awareness amongst consumers with our services accounting for 40% of the UKs distribution of last minute holiday deals. The launch of our TV channel will expand on this successful base to provide consumers with the inspiration and motivation to select the best early booking offers as well as late deals."
The programme format of Teletext Holidays TV will provide operators and agents with distinct branding and direct telephone response slots. Programme content will include UK and overseas destination guides, resort and accommodation features, holiday news, weather reports, consumer reviews, auctions and viewer competitions.
Auditions for presenters are currently taking place and after the initial channel launch additional presenters will be recruited via a nationwide search.
New Era television will be the production company behind the new launch operating from studios in central London.
