DMG Radio Australia ['DMG'], wholly owned by DMGT, has successfully bid for the Melbourne FM radio licence auctioned today by the Australian Government. The purchase price was A$52 million (£20 million), of which 10% has been paid in cash today and the balance will be payable in 45 days.
The new station is likely to be launched next year, using the infrastructure of
DMG's existing Melbourne station, Nova 100. This follows DMG's successful bid
for a second Sydney licence in April this year.
This auction covered the last in a series of metropolitan radio licences
released by the Australian Government. No more licences are expected to be
released for at least five years.
