Teletext has announced the launch of Teletext Cars, the UK’s first free service for consumers to find the best new and used car deals via their TV remote control. The new service launches on 25 April and will be accessible by pressing the text button when watching any Channel 4 programme on Sky, Freeview or analogue television.

Featuring around 80,000 new and used car offers from over a thousand reputable dealers across the UK, the service will enable car buyers to find the best deals by selecting their chosen make and model of vehicle and the region closest to them. Deals will be displayed alongside phone numbers for users to find out more information or to set up a test drive.

Like its sister service Teletext Holidays, Teletext Cars is set to be a highly competitive marketplace with dealers being encouraged to use the facility to communicate their keenest deals. At the same time it will provide consumers with information to allow them to decide for themselves what represents the best value in the new and used car market.

As well as providing an up to date and free comparison research tool, Teletext Cars will feature specification information, reviews, advice and associated products such as loans and insurance.

Teletext Cars will be available on analogue TV (Channel 4 page 700), digital terrestrial and digital satellite (via Channel 4) as well as on the Internet at www.teletextcars.co.uk. In summer 2005 a digital text service launches on ITV and Teletext Cars will also become available via the text button across all ITV channels.

Neil Johnson, MD Business Development at Teletext Ltd said: “Teletext Cars will help people save time whilst also making sure they find the best deal for them. It’s convenient, comprehensive, free and straightforward.”
