The University of Sussex has today announced an exciting new opportunity for international students to study at the University from October 2006. The University has invited Brighton-based Study Group, a world leader in international education, to establish an on-campus International Study Centre.

The new Centre will offer international students specialist preparation for degree-level study at Sussex in a wide range of science and arts areas. It will provide English language and study skills preparation as an integral part of the experience, along with dedicated student support services.

Students will progress from the International Study Centre directly into undergraduate degrees in areas such as management, computing, engineering, law, humanities and social studies, where Sussex has leading research and teaching expertise.

Unlike traditional foundation courses, which often place students in local colleges or in off-campus sites, the Centre will be located at the heart of the University. Students will be full members of the Sussex community with access to all University facilities.

Professor Alasdair Smith, Vice-Chancellor of the University said: “The University of Sussex is committed to pioneering new approaches to international education. The ISC on our campus will offer a unique environment for learning for international students. Working in partnership with Study Group allows us to open up exciting opportunities for our student community.”

The joint venture with Study Group links the ISC at Sussex to Study Group’s unrivalled global network of 40 regional offices and partner counselling agencies. Study Group will also bring their extensive understanding and experience in supporting and teaching international students in the UK, preparing them for the highest quality degree-level learning, while Sussex academics will be closely involved in quality-assurance and assessment arrangements throughout.

Andrew Thick, Managing Director of Study Group, said: “We are delighted to have been invited by the University of Sussex to join them in creating this new International Study Centre. International students will find this an unmatched opportunity to undertake their study at one of the UK’s leading international universities”
