Associated Newspapers announced today that London Lite, its new afternoon free newspaper, will launch imminently.

Aimed at a core audience of young professionals aged 25-34, known as 'urbanites', London Lite will bring a dynamic, fresh and punchy approach to the capital's news, business, showbusiness and sport, and offer a comprehensive listings and entertainment guide.

The newspaper, which will publish 48 pages each day, will be produced by a team of 40, and 400,000 copies will be distributed by merchandisers throughout London Underground Zone 1 every week day starting at 12.30pm.

Associated first started planning London Lite in detail three years ago, but the company's plans were delayed by an OFT enquiry finally settled in March 2006.

Martin Clark will be the launch editor of the newspaper following his work on Standard Lite and the Irish Daily Mail.

Steve Auckland, as head of Associated Newspapers' Free Newspaper Division, will supervise the production of the new title. For the past four years he has been Managing Director of the phenomenally successful Metro, now available in 15 of the UK's major cities.

Steve Auckland said: "With the OFT cleared, our longheld plans can now be put in place. Our considerable experience of the London market and free newspapers leaves us in no doubt that London Lite will be very attractive to advertisers and secure a big audience."
