MailOnline has closed the gap on Guardian Unlimited to just 3m visitors and consolidated its position as Britain’s second biggest newspaper website.

New audited figures from ABCe reveal MailOnline’s UK-only traffic increased to 4.1m unique visitors in November. That’s the eighth month in a row that its UK traffic has grown. It was 8% up on October 2007 (3.8m) and massive 200% year on year (1.3m). Of particular interest to advertisers will be the news that 60,191,520, or 52% of the total MailOnline page impressions were looked at by UK users. That makes MailOnline 1.6m unique visitors ahead of Telegraph.co.uk and 2.1m unique visitors ahead of Times Online.

MailOnline generated 2m more UK page impressions than Telegraph.co.uk and 9m more UK page impressions than Timesonline. In November MailOnline had an average of 238,472 UK visitors a day and 823,481 global visitors a day – more global visitors a day than The Telegraph, The Times and the Sun.

According to Hitwise, MailOnline has been the biggest UK newspaper website for the past seven weeks with 17.4% of all UK visits last week. MailOnline users also consume over twice as many pages per month, as visitors to the Times, Guardian or Telegraph sites.
