Earthquake appeal raises $128,700

Thursday 22 April 2010

RMS has raised $28,700 for Haiti Earthquake Relief, surpassing a $25,000 target set by the leading catastrophe risk expert.

With RMS, two of its board members and DMGT each matching employee donations up to $25,000 to the Red Cross, a grand total of $128,700 was raised.

The money raised so far by the global Red Cross network has helped to provide aid to approximately two million Haitians since the country was devastated by a major earthquake in January. In fewer than 90 days, the American Red Cross has already spent over $110 million - more than a quarter of the total raised - to meet the most urgent needs of earthquake survivors.

The Red Cross will continue to support hundreds of thousands of additional survivors in the next three to five years until the last donated dollar is spent for long-term recovery.

In the past 12 weeks, the global Red Cross network has collectively:

  • Handed out tarps, tents and toolkits for over 370,000 people
  • Provided relief items for 400,000 people
  • Distributed 60 million litres of clean drinking water
  • Built more than 1,300 toilets
  • Helped vaccinate more than 150,000 people against deadly diseases
  • Coordinated the shipment of more than 2,000 units of blood to medical facilities
  • Treated more than 85,000 people at Red Cross hospitals and mobile clinics
  • Registered more than 28,000 people with missing loved ones on its website
  • Deployed more than 900 aid workers to Haiti
